Earl M. Ferguson

Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Ferguson has an extensive background in real estate, which includes numerous management positions with real estate companies in Washington D.C. and Richmond, VA. He has served as Executive Vice president of Weinstein Management Co., Inc as well as President and Chief Executive Officer of Gumenick Properties, both based in Richmond. His responsibilities have included property management for over 15,000 residential units, including acquisitions, divestitures, renovation of older properties, financing, accounting and strategic planning involving properties with a value of nearly One Billion Dollars. Mr. Ferguson established Artcraft Management, Inc., in 1993. He received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Virginia.

In addition to his corporate role he devotes time to many local and national religious and secular charities.

Alethea M. Parker


Ms. Parker joined Artcraft Management Inc., in September 1998 as a Property Manager. Ms. Parker was promoted to Regional Manager in July 2000; and because of her successful track record as Regional Manager, she was promoted again in December of 2005 to Vice President of Operations and most recently to her current position. Ms. Parker’s multi-faceted background encompasses finance, accounting, property operations, acquisitions, personnel administration, training and education. Ms. Parker’s property management career began in 1988 with a large Property Management Company. In 1992 she became the Property Manager of a 456-unit HUD property with substantial economic issues and deferred maintenance problems. Ms. Parker was the Advisor to four HUD properties in Norfolk and Portsmouth, including Mixed-Use, Section 8, and Section 236 properties. Ms. Parker attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.

Hilda G. Machado

Vice President of Administration

Ms. Machado joined Artcraft Management, Inc., in March 2002 as Executive Assistant to the VP of Property Operations. Hilda was promoted in November 2006 to Director Administration and Personnel and most recently to her current position.

Ms. Machado became interested in the real estate process and obtained her Real Estate License in 1982 when she began her employment with Bowers, Nelms, and Fonville where she worked as the Office Manager for a Real Estate Firm with 32 realtors. In 1984, Ms. Machado stayed in this field but moved to another firm, ERA Robert F. Douglas and Company.

In 1992, Ms. Machado obtained a position at AMF Bowling, Inc. as an Administrative Assistant to the VP of Acquisitions and Development and worked in this department for six years assisting the VP with contracts purchasing Bowling Centers throughout the World. Ms. Machado transferred to the Human Resources Department for the last two years of employment as the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Human Resources.

Pat Shumaker

Vice President of Operations

Mrs. Shumaker joined Artcraft Management in January of 2018 as their Director of Operations. She has been in the property management arena for over 30 years and brings an extensive knowledge of the industry to Artcraft. Ms. Shumaker holds multiple industry designations. Those designations being HCCP and SCHM for Low Income Housing Tax Credits; Certified Occupancy Specialist through the National Assisted Housing and Management Association; and a Certified Property Manager and Accredited Residential Manager through the Institute of Real Estate Management.

Mrs. Shumaker has had extensive experience in diverse portfolios in the past which encompasses LIHTC properties, RAD conversions, 236, HOPE VI and mixed use as well as conventional. She also brings to Artcraft hands-on experience of company growth, training, operations and administration. Mrs. Shumaker holds real estate broker licenses in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Kentucky. She served as IREM Tidewater Chapter 39’s Chapter President in 2001; Mid-Atlantic AHMA President in 2008 and President of Virginia Apartment Management Association in 2016. She continues to serve on the VAMA Board of Directors and is involved in the National Apartment Association on several committees.

Mrs. Shumaker attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Jon M. Barrett, MRICS, CAPS

Vice President – Financial Management

Jon Barrett is the Vice President – Financial Management for Artcraft Management, Inc. In this role, Jon is responsible for the development and monitoring of key performance indicators and property operating metrics; ongoing financial analysis and reporting of operating results to the company’s various third-party ownership entities. Additional responsibilities include the development and implementation of process and performance improvement initiatives, policies and procedures relating to financial management, budget and accounting and the company’s annual budget process.

Prior to joining Artcraft, Jon was the Managing Director of Rose Community Management, LLC (RCM) based in Independence, Ohio where he was responsible for strategic planning and the operational performance of the company’s 10,000-unit multifamily portfolio. Before joining RCM, Jon’s career included leadership roles with the Richmond, Virginia based BHC Management Company, Preservation Management, Inc., where he was responsible for a nine state region and PMR Companies, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and was responsible for a portfolio of 10,000 multi-family units and 250,000 square feet of commercial space. In his more than 35 years of industry experience, Jon has been credited with improving the operating performance of real estate portfolios in markets across the country.

Jon holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of South Florida, the Certified Apartment Portfolio Supervisor designation from The National Apartment Association and he is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors an international property association based in London, UK where he carries the title of Chartered Surveyor.

Darrin Martin

Director of Maintenance

Mr. Martin entered the HVAC trade as a helper, installing industrial HVAC systems. Within five years he obtained his HVAC Journeyman card and CFC certification while rising to the rank of a lead installation mechanic overseeing four crews in charge of multi-million dollar projects.

In 1992, Mr. Martin was recruited to Godfrey & Sons Heating and Air Conditioning to oversee all installation projects and cross train as a service technician while assisting the owner in all aspects of the company business.

In 1997, Mr. Martin came on board with Artcraft Management as a plumber/HVAC technician and was promoted to Director of Maintenance in 2004.

Mr. Martin’s certifications include HVAC, Gas Fitting and Plumbing Master Licenses, Contractor Mold Manager, Indoor Air Quality Master Tech, Lead Renovator and CFC Proctor.
